A conditional is a sentence or a part of a sentence that expresses a condition. It usually begins with the words "when", "If" and "unless".
There are four ways to express conditional in English.
Zero Conditional
It is used to express situations that are always true if something happens.
If babies are hungry, they cry.
If you touch a fire, you get burn.
First Conditional
It is used for real or possible situations.
She'll be late if the train is delayed.
If I have enough money, I'll buy a new pair of shoes.
Second Conditional
It is used for unreal, impossible or improbable situations.The verb "to be", when used in the second conditional, is always conjugated as were.
If I met the Queen of England, I would say hello.
She would travel all over the world, if she were rich.
Third Conditional
It is often referred to as the "past" conditional because it concerns only to past situations with hypothetical result.
If we had taken a taxi, we wouldn't have missed the plane.
If she had studied, she would have passed the exam.
