Adverbs are used to modify a verb, an adjective or another adverb. 

There are usually placed after the main verb or after the object.

Mary sings beautifully.
David is extremely clever.
This car goes incredibly fast.

From the examples above, it can be seen that many adverbs of manner end in -ly. More precisely, they are formed by adding -ly to an adjective.

There are some exceptions in speling

Silent -e is dropped: true -trully
-i becomes -y: happy- happily
le after a consonant is dropped: sensible -sensibly
after  ll only add -y: full -fully

Adjectives ending in -ic

the adjective adds -ally: fantastic -fantactically (exception public -publicly)

Adjectives ending in -ly, use in a ... way/manner or another adverb with a similar meaning

friendly - in a friendly way/ in a friendly manner
likely - probably
